I’m Thalia Noya and I was born and raised in Indonesia. I was first introduced to music by my dad when I was in primary school around the age of 9-10. The first musical instrument that I learned was the guitar. I got excited the first time I saw my dad’s guitar and asked him to teach me how to play it. My dad taught me the basic guitar chords. He’s busy with work so I learned other chords from the internet. I was practicing every day because I wanted to be able to play. The most difficult chord for me to learn at that time was F. I practiced every day to play that chord because I wanted to get better and be able to sing a song with the guitar. I fell in love with music ever since I first got to know about it.
I started to make my own songs when I was around 10 years old. I wrote the lyrics in a piece of paper just for fun. I then started to focus on writing more songs when I was in high school. I showed my friends some of the songs I wrote, and they loved it, so it encouraged me to keep doing it. In my junior year in high school, I ever tried to join an audition to get a scholarship in one of the Universities in Australia for the songwriting major. I got 50% of the scholarship, however, I and my family couldn’t afford the other 50% so I didn’t take the scholarship in the end.
What inspires me to write songs is that I find joy in writing and a lot of time, there are just things that I can’t explain, things that I think people won’t understand if I ever try to talk about it. These things inspire me to put all my feelings and thoughts down on a piece of paper. I find that this can make me feel better. I’d usually start by finding the rhymes and melody then write the lyrics. Sometimes, I already have some writings in a form of a poem or journal then put it together to form a song.
My goal is to inspire a lot of people through my songs and help them express themselves. Some things are hard to explain and when you can’t explain it, you can just sing it. I hope my songs can give positive impacts to those who listen to it. I hope I can help a lot of people through my songs.
